OC Transpo Route 245 cancelled:
As I have had residents sign a petition advocating the re-instatement of bus 245 route, I thought it appropriate to comment.
The cancelled segment only affects North Gower, Fairmile, Kars, and Carleton Golf and Yacht Club. In short, that area of the former Rideau Ward south of Century Road.
Using OC Transpo’s numbers, there are sometimes three riders in and three rides back. There are about 1900 households within the catchment area, each contributing $68 based on a $285,000 assessment or about $130,000 in total. For this route to be reasonably successful, there needs to be at least 10 riders in and 10 riders back.
Last year I held an advertised public meeting in Richmond with Alain Mercier, Transpo GM, to discuss OC service in Munster and Richmond Villages. Only a handful of residents participated. The Richmond meeting was in response to those residents who spoke to me during my last summer’s village walkabout. Based on comments heard, there seemed to be an interest in expanding the service; thus, the meeting.
