Last November Mayor O’Brien urged the McGuinty Gov’t. to support a freeze on all government politicians and employees – union and non-union. Then and now, I favour the implementation to freeze Council stipends.
Therefore be it resolved that City Council implement a comprehension freeze for the City of Ottawa modeled on the Ontario Government for its next fiscal year as follows:
- that the salaries of the Mayor and City Councillors be frozen for two years;
- that the compensation structures of non-union City staff, including political assistants, be frozen for two years;
- that the MPE bonus component of the Merit Pay Program be suspended for 2010 (affecting 2011 compensation); and
- that the City’s local boards and agencies, including Ottawa Police Services Board and the Ottawa Library Board, be provided with this direction … .
